Carbon Monoxide- The Silent Killer

As the holiday season kicks into full gear and the East Tennessee weather is getting cooler more families are spending their time inside. Many people heat their homes with a fuel source such as wood, propane, and natural gas. It’s important to know that although theses fuels produce a wonderful source of heat, they also produce fumes that can be poisonous to humans. The CDC reports that each year over 400 people die from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning! It’s odorless, tasteless, and known as the silent killer. The odorless fumes can cause dizziness, loss of breath, headache, nausea, and DEATH.  Something as simple as a carbon monoxide detector could save your life!

You NEED a Carbon Monoxide Detector!!

Keep all fuel burning items in good working order. Make sure that they are properly vented and maintained. If you hear the alarm sound, do not ignore it! Test them regularly- just as you would a smoke alarm. Lastly, have a conversation about it with your friends and families. Get the word out about the dangers of carbon monoxide. It could save a life!
